Keeping a vision to create an inclusive & just society where Specially Abled Children are empowered and expanded completely. Our mission is to empower the Specially Abled Children and their Parents and bring about holistic development in the Society.

“Bikash” was founded in 1996. Its objective is to protect the rights of children with disability, to educate families, to integrate the Challenged Children into their communities and to prevent and reduce the incidence of childhood disability in the district by taking a holistic approach to the issue.

We run a Centre for Special Education which is housed in a purpose - built building and around 200 children attend the school each day. It caters for children with a wide range of disabilities from mild to moderate including Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual disability, Autism and Speech-Hearing impairments. Many children have multiple disabilities. There is a nursery unit for children from 2-5 years and the older children are split between those with mild and moderate and those with severe disabilities and those are severe disabilities given a functional education to improve their mobility, social and language skills. Wherever possibilities, children with milder disabilities are prepared for integration into mainstream school. There is a focus on providing the children with a vocational education and from the age of 14 training in, for example making of readymade garments, jute crafts, soft doll making etc.

The Centre also focuses on early intervention from birth to 2 years. The children are brought to the centre as soon as possible in order to have their disability diagnosed and assessed and a course of rehabilitation started.
